What We Do

Informative articles appear in journals and learned society publications advising of technology advances and production improvements made by British manufacturers and their equipment.

Representation to Governments is vitally important to the success of British industry. ABMEC seeks at all times to meet with appropriate Ministers and personnel concerned with UK issues and trade development. ABMEC as a responsible body has a trade advisory role to the British Government ensuring that the mining equipment manufacturing industry is represented to the benefit of all companies involved in the sector.

As an industry representative body ABMEC inputs to various Government advisory committees and panels as follows:

  • The Indo British Coal Forum (IBCF) is a government to government relationship established for the development of trade between the sub- continent and the UK coal mining sector. ABMEC acts as both Chairman and Secretariat for the meetings.
  • The Deep Mined Coal Industry Advisory Committee (DMCIAC) reports to government on many issues appertaining to the UK coal mining industry.
  • The Safety & Health in Mines Research Advisory Board (SHMRAB) promotes research and development of systems amd machinery appertaining to safety and health issues in coal mining.
  • Notified Bodies exist to safeguard and guarantee the implementation and overseeing  of equipment standards and certification employed in hazardous atmospheres such as coal mining. ABMEC is the sector Advisory Board representative at Baseefa and Sira - primary UK notified bodies.

The ABMEC Export Development Group provides global representation of the British mining equipment manufacturers to ensure that mining houses and companies are fully aware of ABMEC member strengths and quality.

Mine operators are able to gather information as to the benefits of British mining equipment. By using ABMEC they have a “one-stop” shop where information, detail and contact can be provided on a range of equipment from pick point to final product delivery.
