Ruth Bailey
Director General
Ruth Bailey has served the mining equipment supply industry throughout her working career.
Since graduating with a BA Hons in Russian, Spanish and Politics, Ruth has worked 17 years in export marketing starting her career with Baldwin & Francis Ltd as a marketing specialist and later joining Joy Mining Machinery Ltd. in 1996. After working at the Nottingham and Wigan sites Ruth moved to China for Joy Mining to develop operations in the Chinese market and helping to establish Joy’s first wholly owned foreign enterprise in Baotou, Inner Mongolia.
Ruth has gained an extensive knowledge of export markets, travelling widely across the USA, Europe and Asia.
Mindful of the Associations honourable history, Ruth’s vision is to uphold and enhance ABMEC’s position in the global mining market place whilst maintaining the accredited profile ABMEC enjoys, she looks to expanding its horizons to include a wider spectrum of mining and mineral processing companies.

Steven G Gretton, Managing Director, Clayton Equipment Ltd
Steve was installed as the ABMEC President at the Annual General Meeting on 22 May 2008.
Eur Ing. Steven G Gretton BEng. Hons. CEng. MIMechE, a Professional Engineer educated
to honours degree level in Mechanical Engineering. He holds corporate membership and
is registered as a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, he is also classified as a Professional Engineer on the European Register and holds the title Eur Ing.
He is 46 years of age and joined Clayton Equipment Ltd in the latter part 1993 as their
Engineering Manager Designate, being appointed Engineering Manager in 1994. In 2001 he was appointed Operations Director and has held the principal responsibility for all Company engineering, manufacturing, product development, information technology, quality assurance and business improvement related issues. In 2002 he was appointed Managing Director of Clayton Equipment Ltd. His primary discipline is Mechanical Engineering although he possesses a broad base of engineering knowledge and business skills obtained through working for a variety of Companies prior to Clayton Equipment Ltd. These industries incorporate Railway, Acoustic, Robotics, Aerospace and Mechanical Handling sectors. He also sat on the European Standards Writing Committee (CEN TC196) responsible for creating the European Locomotive Standards EN 1889 pt. 2 and is President of Association of British Mining Equipment Companies (ABMEC). He has travelled extensively throughout the world, developing markets and promoting the Clayton product line successfully negotiating multi-million pound contracts.

David Pattinson, Managing Director, Baldwin & Francis Ltd
David was installed as ABMEC President at the association's Annual General Meeting on 25 May 2006.
David’s background is heavily biased towards mining. He commenced his career with the National Coal Board as an electrical engineer and quality assurance professional reaching a senior management position within the British mining industry.
He followed this with a 2 year period as a management consultant for Bywater Plc before joining Baldwin & Francis in 1990 as Group Quality Manager. At that time, Baldwin & Francis was part of
Rolls Royce Plc.
In May 1994, following a management buy out of the company David was appointed Operations Director responsible for product design and development, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and quality management.
He was made Managing Director in 2000 and in November 2004, led a successful second management buy out.
Since his time at Baldwin & Francis Ltd, he has taken an active interest in ABMEC. He has represented the Association at EECS committees, BSI meetings and chaired the Association’s Electrical Group for some 6 years. Throughout this time he has been an energetic Council member and has merited his elevation to the ABMEC Presidency.
